Saab J35 OE Draken (soon)
The Draken was a versatile Mach 2 fighter, comparable to the Lockheed Starfighter and the Dassault Mirage III. The Saab Type 35 was designed between 1949 and 1951 as a supersonic fighter, which would be easy to service and capable of operating in all weather, from relatively short, unprepared landing grounds.
It was developed by Sweden for home defence during the Cold War. Indeed, from the end of World War II, the countries close to the USSR, such as Sweden, feared that if a conflict broke out, their air bases would be attacked by the Soviet Union.
The Swedish Air Force were looking for an aircraft that would enable them to operate from small airfields or even motorways. With a double delta wing improving its low speed performance, the Draken is capable of taking off or landing in a relatively short distance.
